Dundalk girls finished of their Tag rugby season in a intensely fought blitz in Virginia Rugby Club. The girls arrived at Virginia keen to finish the season on the massive high that has been their form this season. Strong competition faced them with Virginia fielding two teams along with the fast paced Ardee girls. The games were a brilliant show in defence with superb tagging by Dundalk girls throughout. It was a huge team effort, with new girls to the season, Sadhbh McDonnell, Libby Turnbull and Orlagh Conway saving some of their best defensive play of the season for this blitz.

Seasoned players Ellen O’Hara, Ruth Hanna and Zoe Valentine had the centre covered and skillful passes kept Dundalk ahead throughout all their games. Meadhbh O’Callaghan had the game of her season, nothing getting past her defence in the corner. Jessica and Deborah Malone also gave it their all Dundalk sailed through to the playoff against Virginia but with few subs against a surplus of rested Virginia players with fresh legs they were pipped at the post by one try, much to their disappointment. The blitz was an intensely physical encounter for the girls, several receiving knocks and injuries in the games, this only added to their determination.Their overall performance was an outstanding team effort from a team that has come together brilliantly over the season, each with individual strengths. Captain on the day was the capable Aoife Malone.

Team Manager Sharon Toal, coaches Suzanne Flynn, Linda Valentine, Maria Cartwright and Chris Scully were thrilled with their finish to the season, and immensely proud of their achievements in the North Leinster League this year.
