Dundalk 2ndXV v North Meath Jenkinson Cup Sunday 30th Sept at Mill Road

Dundalk 2nd XV regrouped to face into this Jenkinson Cup match after a disappointing outing last week against Tullamore. As was said then, this is a team in transition and not short on courage and commitment and the Jenkinson Cup match gave them the chance to assess the improvements since last week.

This was a high scoring game and a credit to both teams who played open rugby. The Dundalk team was led by Capt Sam Mulligan and showed huge improvement on last week’s performance. Gerry Scully followed a superb outing yesterday with a hat trick of tries for the home team. Tom Thornton, Conor Beattie and Laurence Steen showed really well in the pack and got through some immense work. David Quigley, a newcomer to the game and making his debut gave a Man of the Match performance and will be a decided asset to the club as he gains more experience. The match ended with Dundalk emerging victorious on a scoreline of 41-31.

Today’s team was a blend of experience and youth and some very encouraging performances came from John White,Shane Matthews and Brian Tansey and this group of players can and will make progress under the encouragement of Captain, coaches and mentors. Keep up the good work!
