Under 17’s Match Report: Dundalk 5 Ashbourne 10

After a big win the previous week Dundalk faced much tougher opposition against Ashbourne in Meath last Saturday.

Dundalk got off to a bad start when a well worked move of the back of an Ashbourne scrum by the number eight released the winger to score in the corner.

Dundalk suffered a number of injuries with Morgan McLaughlin, Sean Lawless and Hugh Tiernan all having to retire early.  This upset Dundalk’s momentum and they struggled to get any real opportunities.  Stephen McGivern made a good break midway through the second half only to be stopped by the fullback with a fine tackle.

The game was very tight and it wasn’t until late in the second half that Ashbourne increased the lead to ten.  Dundalk  never gave up and Tadgh McElroy scored with a few minutes left on the clock to leave the score 10-5 at full time.

Next up for Dundalk in the North East league is a home match against North Meath on Saturday.
