Under 10 Sharks welcome St Mary’s and Boyne

Dundalk Sharks Under 10s welcomed both St Mary’s and Boyne to Mill Road on Sunday and with 3 teams having travelled from St Mary’s and 2 from Boyne, Mill Road was packed to the rafters on Sunday Morning. The Sharks fielded 3 teams and fared extremely well, being generally too strong for all St Mary’s sides, but with Boyne just having the edge in hard fought contests against the home sides. The Black Sharks were guided by Hugh Pheifer, the White Sharks guided by Paul McEvoy and John McDonnell and the Grey Sharks Guided by Eddie Finnegan and Jason Malone.

The Black Sharks were facing well coached opposition from St Marys but were well up for the challenge. The first match was evenly matched and the sharks had to work hard for their four tries, two from Edward Finnegan, one from Aaron McGuinness and a wonderful debut try by Aaron Murphy all the way from the half way. Marys had no response due to solid defence by the sharks.

In the second match the sharks let in two early tries after some good Marys play but came back brilliantly with four tries from a superb Aaron McGuinness and one each from Edward Finnegan and Joseph Pheifer. Marys came back with one more before the end to finish 6-3 to Dundalk.

The final game was very well balanced with excellent passing, rucking and tackling from both sides. Two Tries from Aaron McGuinness and one each from Edward Finnegan, Joseph Pheifer, Lawrence Jones and Lorcan Ticehurst with matched responses from Marys left it 6-6 in the final minute but Edward Finnegan snatched a winner as the final whistle blew to win 7-6.

Great rugby all round with worthy effort by Fiachra O’Gorman, Fiachra McCormick Brian McCahill, and Sean Leonard.

The White Sharks and the Silver Sharks performed similarly well, being too strong for St Mary’s but narrowly losing to Boyne, with Boyne’s superiority at the breakdown and counter rucks winning the day. The intensity at the breakdown and in the ruck will be something for Jason and the coaching team to work on at training in the weeks ahead. Overall a fantastic mornings rugby was enjoyed by all present with the St Mary’s contingent delighted they made the trip up.
