Ladies Day Time Change

Dear Members and Friends,

Please note that due to confusion over the playing times of the club’s senior matches on Saturday, Ladies Day will now kick off in style with a Bubbles Reception at 4pm, not 1pm as previously advised. We apologise for the confusion and hope to see you all there on the day for what will be a great afternoon/evening.

Under 9’s in Ashbourne

U9’s travelled to Ashbourne on Sunday morning for their second round in the Metro league.

There was just enough for two teams as communion mass & winter bugs took effect.

Fergus O’Callaghan looked after team A which won their match. Was impressed the way players are developing well as a team in rucking & passing. On this team there were very good passages of play from Conal O’Callaghan, Lorcan Ticehurst, Brian McCahill and Laurence Jones where exceptional.

Team B which Hugh Phiefer took the rains also won their game. He was quite impressed also with how they played, very good tackling, rucking & support for the player on the ball. There’re was very good individual play by Eoin Staunton, Fionn Duffy, Joseph Pheifer & Luke Andrews.

Well done to all players & keep up the good work.

Jason

A quiet weekend for the senior teams.

Last weekend was a quiet weekend for all our Senior teams with no fixtures due to the Autumn Series of International Games. Many from the club travelled to support Ireland as they were fighting to secure their Top 8 ranking for the next World Cup. We saw a wonderful match with inventive play from the Irish to score 7 tries and be a top 8 team for next December’s World Cup Draw.

The quiet weekend has allowed for recuperation and increased recovery time for injuries among all three teams. This week we have Cill Dara as our visitors. Though they are in the lower half of the League Table they always are formidable opponents on any occasion and will be treated with the respect that is their due. We will have a very competitive game here on Saturday evening next. Training was well attended and continues on Tues and Thurs at the usual times. Next Saturday is our Ladies Day and all the relevant information is on the website.

Please note the unusual K.O. times for the 1st and 2nd XV games v Cill Dara

Dundalk1st XV v Cill Dara 1st XV at 7o’clock

Dundalk 2nd XV v Cill Dara 2nd XV at 5o’clock

Don’t worry, we have lights but bring your heating systems!

Dundalk 3rd XV v Boyne RFC will be on Sunday away at 2o’clock

Your support for all our teams, both home and away, would be much appreciated.

We wish the Social Committee every success with their Ladies Day event on Saturday. We know the club and the food will be at their best for the occasion.

U12’ S Metro League Fixture V Malahide

Dundalk U12’s travelled to Malahide for a Metro league fixture early on Sunday morning. Due to illnesses and some injuries Dundalk were a couple of players short and had to borrow a couple of Malahide men to make up the numbers to allow us to field two teams, so we would like to thank Gavin and Daire for turning out for us.

Team one for Dundalk was made of the following; Daire Crilly, Martin O Donnachada, Michael Mulholland, Isacc McGahon, James Gorham, Ciaran Murphy, Tom Dorian, Adam Stewart, Michael Belton and Neil Thornton. Dundalk started slowly in their first match and Malahide ran in three tries in the first half to lead 3-0 at the break. Dundalk however dug deep in the second half and fought back to level things through tries from Martin O Donnachada, James Gorham and Neil Thornton. Malahide crossed over the try line once more to go one try up again before a late rally for Dundalk saw Ciaran Murphy going over in the corner after a great run from deep inside his own half. The final whistle blew soon after leaving the sides level at 4-4.

In there second match Dundalk took an early lead through flying winger Michael Belton who showed real pace when receiving the ball wide he still had plenty to do from inside his own half but managed to outrun the Malahide defence to touch down. Malahide fought back to level things by halftime and then took the lead early in the second half. Dundalk fought back again and that man Michael Belton repeated the trick from the first half and outsprinted the Malahide defence to cross the try line once more. A strong Malahide team attacked continuously for the rest of the half and although Dundalk defended valiantly with some tigerish tackling, their try line was breached once more near the end of the match. The final score here ending 3-2 to the home side. Overall there were great performances from Martin O Donnachada and Daire Crilly in the forwards and Tom Dorian, James Gorham and Ciaran Murphy in the backline. Special mention should be given to Daire Crilly who had the vomiting bug over the weekend but still managed to get out of his sickbed to lineout on the day.

Team two for Dundalk were made up of the following; Fionn Ni Mhuiri, Sean Wallace, Cathal Purcell, Peter Woulfe, Patrick Burns, Leon Keegan, Luke McSherry and Dean Conway. In there first match Dundalk were unlucky to lose out by the odd try in seven, try scorers for Dundalk were Leon Keegan, Luke McSherry and Dean Conway. In there second match Dundalk improved some and went and beat their Malahide counterparts by five tries to three. Scorers for Dundalk were Patrick Burns, Sean Wallace, Cathal Purcell, Dean Conway with the fifth try being scored by a Malahide man playing for Dundalk on the day. Best performers on the day were Fionn Ni Mhuiri, Cathal Purcell and Sean Wallace in the forwards and Patrick Burns, Dean Conway and Luke McSherry in the backline.

Dundalk players and coaches would like to thank the players and coaches from Malahide for their hospitality on the day. Dundalk U12 coaches would like to wish Leon Keegan who injured himself on the day a speedy recovery along with other injured players who missed out this week including Fionn Meegan, Ryan McShane and King’ori Ndungu, get well soon guys. The coaching staff would also like to give a mention to all new players who have started this season and are coming on great and starting to play some great rugby, keep it up guys.

Under 11’s Match Report W/E 17-11-12

Dundalk sharks U11’s fielded 3 even teams on Sunday last, against Metro Leauge kingpins De la Salle Plamerstown from Dublin. The White Sharks were captained by Arlen Donnelly, the Black Sharks were capatained by Charlie Murdock and the Grey sharks were capatined by James McDonnell. On a very cold day, the sharks were caught out by a very sharp DLSP outfit who were hungrier and sharper to the break down and were strong across the board. It was a good experience for all the lads, who now know the level required when we face the big teams. But for all the opposition’s power, there were many magnificant displays by the young charges from Oriel and district. Many examples of the shark”s fighting spirit were rewarded with trys and although the freezing conditions took their toll, it was a worthwhile run out for the lads.

Next week sees the U11 sharks traveling to Malahide RFC and a big game will be expected from the sharks.

If you would like to come out and give rugby a go for your child, please come out on thursday evenings to the club at Mill Road at 6Pm when we train. You can also contact Ultan Herr at ultan.herr@gmail.com .
